Chrissy's Legacy

Chrissy Amphlett rocked our world. The Aussie frontwoman of the Divinyls, paved the way for strong, sexy, outspoken women everywhere. In 2013, she passed away after a courageous battle fighting both breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

I Touch Myself was the Divinyls' most recognized song and touched millions of fans around the globe. It’s a song that celebrates female sexuality like no other. When Chrissy developed breast cancer, it was a song she wanted to become an anthem for spreading awareness about the importance of touching ourselves for early detection of the disease.

The I Touch Myself Project

The I Touch Myself Project was launched on the first anniversary of Chrissy’s passing on 21 April 2013. The project was a collaboration between creative agency J Walter Thompson Sydney and Chrissy’s husband, musician Charley Drayton.

"Chrissy voiced it clearly – she wished for all women to be mindful of themselves when they heard the tune; to be good to themselves, listen to your instincts and feel what is going on inside you.
- Charley Drayton

In 2014, the campaign launched a music video featuring a host of leading female artists in a tender rendition of The Divinyls song, aiming to get women to ‘touch themselves’, reminding them to get to know their breasts. The video was a huge success touching more than 400 million people worldwide.

Touch yourself

It’s vital that you check your breasts regularly for changes. There’s no right or wrong way to check your breasts. Know what your breasts look like and how they feel. Check your breasts when you get dressed or in the shower, whatever works for you. Most breast changes aren’t likely to be breast cancer. But if you find something, see your doctor straight away.
